Frequently Asked Questions

How many weddings have you photographed?
Over 500.

What happens if you have another wedding on the same day?
That will definitely NOT happen!  We only ever book one wedding per day so that we will never arrive late because a previous wedding over ran, or have to rush your wedding to go on to another.

Can I make a provisional booking?
Yes, but the date will only be held for two weeks.

How do I book you for my wedding?
You can book us online, over the phone or in person.  We will then have a meeting over a cup of coffee to look at some samples and discuss exactly what you would like and arrive at an agreed price.

What if you’ve never been to the venue before?
No problem.  We never go to a wedding without visiting the venue first, preferably with the couple so that we can explore what shots we can do where.  Also if we don’t have the opportunity to meet the celebrant, then we insist on the couple asking what their photography rules are well in advance.  We will then confirm this with the celebrant prior to the ceremony.

When do I have to pay you?
A £250 booking fee is payable within two weeks of booking, or we will assume you no longer wish to use our services and release the date for another client.  The balance is payable after the wedding when the previews are ready.

Do you take credit cards?
Yes we accept the major credit and debit cards, along with cheques and cash.

Can we pay you in instalments?
Yes, but only if you want to pay in full before the wedding.  We cannot offer credit as we are not a licensed credit broker.  The booking fee however must be paid in a single payment.

It’s nearly two years to my wedding - how much will the price go up?
It won’t!  Once you have signed a booking contract the price is fixed.

You say you are a ‘Qualified’ member of the MPA - what does that mean?
To get that qualification I had to submit sets of photographs to be assessed by a panel of top photographers to ensure that my work was of a suitable standard.

How many photographers will I get at my wedding?
Normally it’s just myself, but on many occasions I am assisted by my wife, Ellen, who acts as my second shooter looking out for the more informal moments.

How long will you be taking the photographs?
This varies depending on the number of photographs you want. Normally we say 45 minutes to an hour depending on the cooperation of your guests.

Do we need to give you a list of all the photographs we want?
No, we will do all the usual group shots, then shots of the couple.  The only photographs you need to list are any special requirements.  And don’t give us the list!!  Give it to the best man or someone who knows who the people are that you want photographing.  That way they can be ‘rounded up’ while we’re doing other shots.

When will the previews be ready?
Normally they will be available online within a few days, but the password will not be released until any remaining balance has been paid.

Can family and friends order copies online?
Yes, and this is the cheapest and easiest way of doing it.

Do you shoot video as well?
No.  If you want video as well, then you will need to hire a professional videographer.

How many shots will you take?
This depends on the package you have chosen and the amount of time we have.  We will only shoot around 60 to 70 images for our smallest packages, but our larger ones can have 200.  Some photographers will offer you 1000 images, but many will be the same or very similar and in our opinion may well not be value for money.

Why should I have an album instead of just a disc?
Think about it, we all have boxes of old photographs and family albums that are older then we are.  And we can still look at them.
Digital media is constantly being updated.  Remember Video 2000, Betamax video, 5 inch and 3.5 inch floppy discs? None of these formats can be played back now, so images stored on these are lost forever.  Soon CDs will go this way as well.  But you will still be able to show your wedding album to your grandchildren.

Why do I have to sign a contract?
This is a legally binding document that states exactly what we have agreed and so protects us both from any future misunderstanding.  This is also required by our insurers.

Are you fully insured?
Yes.  We have professional indemnity and public liability insurance.  Some wedding venues will only permit photography by fully insured professional photographers.

Do you shoot on film or digital?
We shoot using several Nikon digital cameras.

Can I have black & white, or sepia photographs?
Yes.  We will shoot everything in colour, but any shot you want can later be turned into a monochrome or sepia image.

What happens if you are ill?
One of the biggest advantages of employing a proper qualified professional photographer is the network of fellow professionals that we can call on if the worst comes to the worst.
